family promise of greater concord

BMUMC Host Coordinators

John & Rita Blackadar

2023-24 The Family Promise Schedule:

Our weeks will be: December 31-January 7, 2024, May 19-26, 2024.

Our mission is to help homeless and low-income families achieve sustainable independence in the Concord area.

We recognize that poverty is a complex problem that requires a multifaceted response. We respond by integrating educational outreach, smart programming, effective policies, and the hands-on work of local volunteers. We provide food, shelter, and support services for homeless families. We provide advice and advocacy for at-risk families to prevent their becoming homeless. And we educate people about poverty and the means to combat it.

Family Promise of Greater Concord applies the national program of Family Promise—a local, interfaith group of congregations who work on a rotational basis—to support guest families transitioning each Sunday to another fellowship setting.

Congregation support is for one week at a time—every 2-3 months. In preparation for our week, our Host Coordinators at Bow Mills UMC prepare the fellowship hall, kitchen and turn class rooms into bedrooms for our guests. We also assist in the transition of guests families and their belongings between host congregations.

If you want to be a follower of Jesus and share hospitality with our neighbors in need, please consider joining our team—we do this TOGETHER—not alone!
