Our mission is to help homeless and low-income families achieve sustainable independence in the Concord area.
We recognize that poverty is a complex problem that requires a multifaceted response. We respond by integrating educational outreach, smart programming, effective policies, and the hands-on work of local volunteers. We provide food, shelter, and support services for homeless families. We provide advice and advocacy for at-risk families to prevent their becoming homeless. And we educate people about poverty and the means to combat it.
Family Promise of Greater Concord applies the national program of Family Promise—a local, interfaith group of congregations who work on a rotational basis—to support guest families transitioning each Sunday to another fellowship setting.
Bow Mills UMC and Suncook UMC have become participants in this community outreach program. Our FPGC Executive Director, Case Manager and support staff of area professionals are available to help with training our families in areas necessary to help move toward housing, independence and dignity.
Congregational support sign-up goes out two weeks prior to service week, where our volunteers supply a supper meal, and/or 2 or 3 people go to Suncook UMC. Typically we volunteer from 5:00-8:00 pm to serve and have supper with our guest families. Its also a time of fellowship for the evening and/or 2 people to stay overnight from 8:00am to 7:30 - 8:00 am the following morning. We also provide breakfast items for our guest families to help themselves in the morning before they go out for they day.
Congregation support is for one week at a time—every 2-3 months. In preparation for our week, our Host Coordinators at Suncook UMC prepare the fellowship hall, kitchen and turn class rooms into bedrooms for our guests. We also assist in the transition of guests families and their belongings between host congregations.
If you want to be a follower of Jesus and share hospitality with our neighbors in need, please consider joining our team—we do this TOGETHER—not alone!
