SUMMER READ-A-THON

The first mention of a Reading Program is cited in the Heathen Woman’s Friend, the magazine of the Woman’s Foreign Missionary Society of the Methodist Episcopal Church, a predecessor of United Methodist Women.   The year was 1890.

Fast forward today.  Bow Mills United Methodist Women introduced the Reading Program in 2006 with 14 books available.   Today, our group has an excellent selection of 40 books in the categories of Education for Mission, Spiritual Growth, Social Action, Nurturing for Community, Leadership Development, Children/Youth Books.

SO, the question is…..What are you reading?

Bow Mills UMW will host a Read-a-Thon from June 1st to September 30th. We will seek donations, pledges and, if you wish, have a sponsor to help you. This fundraiser is to build up our treasury to continue our mission work here in New Hampshire.

In addition, Pastor Virg has a number of spiritual books that could be checked out for this Read-a-Thon. You will need to call either Linda (224-0884) or Dottie (225-1042) to arrange to pick up a book at church. A sign-up sheet will be on the credenza outside Linda’s office to keep track of reading program participants.

We hope many will participate as this will be a fun event to see how many books can be read!!

A drawing will be held on October 1st of all who participated and the winner will receive a gift

certificate to their favorite restaurant. Thank you all for supporting this project.
